Foot Zone Therapy

Zone Therapy is an ancient art that stimulates every organ and renews the cell system in each treatment. Zone Therapy is a holistic approach which recognizes that all of the body's cells and organs make up a complex and interactive organism. A treatment strives to restore communication with every system in the body as a whole.

Foot Zone Therapy is precise, directed pressure to the various “zones” of the feet. When a signal point is triggered within a certain zone, a message goes to the tissue or organ affected, through a reflex arc to the spinal cord and then to the brain. Discomfort is experienced in the areas of imbalance ~ areas where healing is needed.

History of Zone Therapy

Zone Therapy, in some form has been practiced as a healing method for thousands of years. It has come and gone with the rise and fall of civilazations. Heiroglyphics and ancient paintings depicting this therapy have been found in Egypt, China, and India. Even Incan ruins in South America have depictions of this ancient form of healing.

The modern history of zone therapy begins with Dr. William Fitzgerald, (1872-1946) an American Nose and Throat Specialist, who discovered that longitudinal zones in the body were connected with the hands and feet. In 1916, Dr. Erwin F. Browers published a report on Dr. Fitzgerald’s findings which he named Zone Therapy. By the middle of the 1900’s, Zone Therapy had found its way to the Scandinavian countries.

In the 1950's, a Norwegian named Dr. Charles Ersdal, M.D., M.A., used Zone Therapy to cure himself of paralysis. This experience took him to Germany where he studied several holistic therapies including Zone. Beginning in 1969, his curiosity led him to begin extensive research in this dynamic therapy.

His research involved detailed documentation of thousands of case histories. During this time, he was able to chart the human anatomy including; the entire brain and nervous system, the blood and lymph systems, the muscular and skeletal systems, and all of the major organs and tissues, as it relates to these “points” on the feet. He developed valuable information about how the innate signal system of the body works and how it can be stimulated in this therapy with remarkable results. Dr. Ersdal and his Center for Alternativ Medisin in Kristiansand, Norway became famous not only in Europe but throughout the world.
